Hello everyone, i was referred here for a problem that i am having with my truck. A couple days ago, i was about to start up my pickup and go to school. I started it up and there was this heavy clicking, and a large amount of exhaust pumping from the pipe. Now, the mechanic told me my camshaft had jumped and that my head gasket had blown. Also, many fluids had mixed in with the engine oil such as the coolant. He also gave me an estimate of about 6000CDN. Now, what im wondering is how much a new engine would cost, because im beginning to think it would be cheaper. If you guys could please link me to a website where they have brand new or low mileage engines. It would be much appreciated. By the way, its a RWD 4.2L V6. Thanks in advance.
where do you live? there are alot of salvage yards that you could buy a good low milage engine out of a recent wreck , prices between $500-1500. with warrenty, ive gone that route a couple of times and had good luck and it saved alot of time reassembling the engine, the generally come complete with injectors and sensors, so everything is the same milage on the engine, its already broke in, just drop in and go, no break ins to worry about.
I live in Vancouver BC...i dont quite feel secure with a salvage yard engine. I've had bad experiences with them. I had a camaro a while back and i bought a salvaged engine that died on me within a yearand a half. So yes, id prefer a new engine, or one NOT out of a wreck. Thanks.
Did you take your truck to a dealer or someone else?
It would be best to take it to someone that has experience on these.
I guess it's possible but I've never seen a 4.2 jump the timing chain.
