HMM, My 77 F150 custom has vinyl w/cloth inserted seat and carpet. It also has the woodgrain cover on the glovebox door that says Custom.
My 77 F100 Custom has a vinyl seat and rubber mat.
I always assumed by Custom it was basic or had a few chosen options. Years ago a business friend from Germany looked at my new Buick LeSabre Limited with every imaginal option and asked, "so what's it missing; it is limited in some way, yes?"
For some reason i thought custom had to do with the truck having a 400 in it instead of the other engines available..cant remember where i heard that, and dont know if there is any merit to it, just something i thought i would see is fact or fiction...

Custom, Ranger, Ranger XLT, and Ranger Lariat were all trim levels. I think the Lariat was only in the 78/9 trucks. Each one in that order was a step up, and included a little fancier interior and generally had more chrome.
Don't confuse trim with options. These are things like a/c, cruise, tilt, light group, radios, etc. Usually the higher trim levels had more options, but I have seen Customs loaded with options, and Rangers with hardly any.
