I've got a '97 CC, PSD, 4x4, xlt. Before I plowed into a S10 blazer, I was getting 16 or 17 MPG. Now I get 13 or 14. The front was damaged to the point of replacing the radiator and serpentine belt. Any thoughts on what might have dropped the mileage? The body shop didn't know diesels, so I took it to my repair shop to make sure the anti-freeze additive was right, etc. I didn't have them put it on the scope though. I was hoping for some insight, so I know what to ask for at the shop.
No intercooler. I was thinking maybe that the belt got put on a tooth off, like on a gas engine. Timing, something that could be adjusted to help the mileage. There is no vibration or wear to tell me that there is an alignment or body twist damage.
It ended up being the cam position sensor. It was giving intermittent problem codes. I took it in cuz it quit starting for me. That ended up being the glow plug relay. While on the scope, they found codes for the cam position sensor. It never died on me, but eventually it would have.
