Engine swap question.....

Hey fellas, I am trying too find a 96-00 ranger SWB stepside with a 3.0L v6 and 5spd. standard.
Well, I have found it difficult too find a SWB truck with nothing but the 2.3L 4banger.
I'm thinking, if I find a truck exactly like I want, but it has a 4banger, how hard would it be too swap in a 3.0L v6. I know I would need the ECU from a doner truck, engine and mounts, but would the bellhousings be the same?

Thanks fellas.

no they are different,and a 99+ 3.0 pcm will not work in a 2.5 truck 96-00.the 99+ 6cyl motor pcm's require pats(passive anti theft systems).so either stick with a 98- pcm or start with a 99+6cyl truck.which is a great platform to swap in a v8 from a 98+ explorer

Well, I was just thinking if I could'nt find a truck exactly like I want, could I swap in a 96-98 3.0L v6
I would need the ECU, mounts and other crap, but is it possible? I mean, will the bellhousing on the maxda 5spd. fit a 3.0L

I think the bolt pattern on the 3.0 block is unique.

This I believe to be true. Although, I thought that maybe you could more easily do a 2.3-4.0 swap. Might check into that?

I was looking at a 3.0L for the MPGs, but how much more gas does a 4.0L
use?
Also, I know that MPGs will vary cause I have not found 1 4.0L w/ a 5spd.
And a 3.0L is a little uncommon.

Oh, I forgot too ask, just incase I find a ranger that is perfect, but no v6. What all 4bangers came in 96-00 rangers? I know they had 2.3L 2.5L and 2.9L is that all?

The 4.0 & 3.0 get about the same mileage. The 4 bangers were 2.3 & 2.5, the 2.9 was a v-6. They are out there, my girls brother just got a 95 shortbed 4.0 5 speed.
