next problem (oh yea, no problems, only solutions)

The next thing I want to go after is my power steering pump to eliminate the constant whine. A buddy tells me there is a procedure for bleeding the lines to get rid of the noise after installing a new unit. One: can you enlighten me on the procedure, and Two: can I try bleeding the unit to see if air in the lines is actually the problem before making the investment in a new pump?
Thanks for your insights.

in order to bleed the power steering lines slowly crank the wheel to the stops on one way then bounce the wheel against the stop lightly. slowly crank it over to the other stop and bounce lightly against it. that should bleed the lines well enough. if all else fails try again

Make sure you install a filter in the return line from the PS unit.

Wix transmission/PS filter #58964
200 psi working, pressure relieved, magnetic
change yearly or 12000 miles
Ford equivalent filter kit #XC3Z-7B155-AA
filter alone #XC3P-7B155-BA

If there is no air in the system, then it could just be worn to the point that it is cavitating.
