Question problem with prodigy brake controller and 2004 Excursion

Hi

I am pulling my hair out over this one, and I am hoping
someone here can help.

I have a prodigy brake controller hooked up to an excursion 2004
model truck (1/2004) build. The brake controller works fine
when the headlights are off. However, as soon as I turn on the headlights
it reads "N.C" which means no connection. Turn headlights off,
and everything is peachy.

I have tried both the tekonsha harness and the factory harness
and verified that they are wired identical using a digital multimeter.

I have verified that the factory outlet for the 7 way is wired according to the
cover picture. When prodigy reads n.c. and the lights are turned on, the running lights come on and the signal lights work OK. But no brake lights on the trailer when I hit the brakes.

The trailer is a 1997 featherlite with a 6 way connector. And I am using a 7 to 6 way adapter with brake pin off center which matches my trailer.
It is hard to blame any part since everything works when headlights/lights are off. I am at wits end here. The same setup worked fine with my old 2002 Chevy 2500HD crew cab.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

B.

Prodigy brake controller/2004 Excursion

Try checking the ground wire on your trailer - make sure it's clean, rust-free and tight. Had a bad ground on my boat trailer and it caused all kinds of weird problems. Good luck!
