dual alternater

when i ordered my new f-350 6.0, i inquired about dual alternators, and was told that if i wanted this installed that i would have to sign a waiver, that they (the dealer) advised against this because it's very hard to set them up.
this seems very unusual.
any way i'm going to run a mobile office out of my truck, and that is why i had asked about this option.
i need some input on power inverters.
thanks in advance

Im in the process right now trying to hard wire my inverter, its a 800W and i have placed an AC outlet in the bed and behind my center console, right now im only able to get power to the inverter but the AC plugs arent working, but ive seen it done just gotta figure it out. I think its a great mod or add on for any truck.

When I ordered my E-350 I inquired about dual alternators. The dealer asked what I would be using the van for. When I told them it would be a vehicle for my wife and get some occasional use on camping trips they recommended the dual alternator setup. I have no idea how it could be harder to "setup" but it will certainly add to the nightmare of changing belts. You would have to see under the hood of a 6.0 PSD Econoline to understand. (Oh yeah, no waiver required.)

I ordered mine with dual alt. for stereo equipment. It doesn't look to difficult to set up. My big question is if the banks intercooler set up will fit with the cooler pipe being different to the intercooler, becuase of the second alt.

The second alternator option is a factory installed unit, not a dealer installed item. If your dealer is saying that you need to sign a waiver, walk away. I read into that they will be installing the unit and not the factory and want you to assume liability for their actions! If you order a truck and have it built to your specs, the dual Alts will be factory installed. Then you will have all the power you need to run your "mobil office" once you get an inverter installed.

hey aurora
they told me it would factory installed, and they are mostly used in emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks. What i meant by hard to set up, is that they told me it is hard to have them run in sync,(for lack of better words).
anyway i think i'll do fine without the second alt. i'm doing it now out of my f150, i just thought it would it would have been benificial to have the second alt.

Out of curiosity go back or call and ask them to explain what they meant and why?
This is just killing me to know what they are going to give for a reason.

... on an Excursion.

At least in Canada, the dual alternators are not offered as an option on the Excursion. I'd like to know if anyone has ordered the part and installed it. I suppose one caveat is that some rumors intimate that the PCM controlls the second alternator... and that programming would have to be done somehow.

Somethings not right here. . I signed no waiver as none was mentioned. Came factory installed. No problemo.

My '04 350 has the dual alternators--I ordered it with them. So far, doing just fine. I also installed a 2000/4000 inverter that will even run the a/c on my travel trailer if I have the truck running. Kinda nice knowing I have 110 volt AC anywhere I need it.

I read somewhere that the alts take turn (with each startup) supplying power under normal running, then both kick in if needed.

My 03 F-250 was ordered with dual alternators. I pull a toyhauler trailer and figured the extra current capability would come in handy to charge the trailer batteries when driving down the road.

So far no problems.

wool over the eyes trick

you are probably right Tim, but the truck is coming in next week, and i'm not going to cancel now, i waited too long and the vehicle will do just fine without dual alt, i think (wishful thinking).
i just know to be more careful when dealing with these guys when is time for service.
thanks for all the input from everyone
