Where is my ignition module located?

I am trying to figure out which ignition system I have. I cannot find the ignition module. Unless it is also called the electronic regulator. Is it in the cab? This much I know, it is an 85 300 with a carter ibbl in a f-250. It is and electronic ignition, no vacuum advance. The plug that goes into the distributor has 6 wires coming from it. black, green, yellow, red, yellow, and blue. I have a coil and a ballistor resitor. One of the yellow wires is the timing advance which pulled out from the harness. I am trying to find the cheapest way to fix this mess. Thanks

I think I found out where it is. It is attached to the distibutor. I believe I have a TFI-IV

Sounds like you have the TFI ignition system. The rectangular shaped device approximately 1.5X3” that is attached to the distributor base is the TFI ignition module. The EEC computer under the dash controls the TFI module. The plug you reference is the SPOUT (SPark OUT) plug. When you pull that plug, the computer under the dash relinquishes control of the timing advance and the timing reverts back to base timing which is usually set to 10 degrees before top dead center.

The TFI is a reasonably good ignition system. It biggest drawback is that it is controlled by that computer under the dash and it just doesn’t lend itself to experimenting with timing and advance curves ect. The DuraSpark system from ealier models has an old fashion vacuum and centrifugal advance mechanism that is more fun to tinker with.

If you decide to replace the TFI with a DuraSpark system you probably should refer to some of the earlier threads on this forum that cover the conversion in some depth. I got my DuraSpark system from the local junk yard for $36.

Question, where exactly would the ccm (or pcm, is there a difference?) be located at. my manual gives me two places and under the dash is very general... i pulled my abs comp thinking is was my main computer. there is a box behind the passenger side pannel that is white and has a heat sinc attached to it, however, it only has 19 wirers coming out where the schematics tells me that there should 45 wires coming out of it. is this the ccm/pcm or is it somewhere eles. if so please tell. its a 91 Bronco xlt 302 make.
