What would you do?

I need some insight. I have an 85 300 with a carter feedback carb and electronic ignition. I was changing the distibutor cap because of corrosion and the spark advance wire pulled out from the harness. My truck wont start. If I get a stand alone distibutor like the ford dui, how will the computor act?

DUI's for fords are really ex*****ive, I'd just find a duraspark system and not worry about the computer myself.

I just joined the group and have got a great deal of very good info from all of you. I have a 86 f150 4x4 eec tif ignition. after 240,000 miles the air pump froze up, truck ran ok but idle was bad, gas mileage kept gettig worse and performance went down. started removing emissions, no help, finally got an education regarding eec and feedback carbs. yesterday went to junk yard got a duraspark 2 module, wire harness, distributor, coil, and carter carb. took about three hours to install everything and things are running great. Hasn't idled this good in years. I'm in washington state and the parts set me back 100 bucks. I have removed all emissions except the cat converter and have two vac lines hooked up, one to dist. and one to brake booster.
