Paralell fuel pump

Every few years I wear out a Carter 15psi fuel pump. That leaves me on the side of the road changing it out to my spare. I do have a return line and regulator. I would like to mount up two pumps in paralell but not for continual use. Ideally I could flip a switch and go to the back up.

The question is: How do I keep the off line pump from short circuiting the pressure?

How about one of those old fashion brass tank switchers used on the dual tank setup of the early 70's? Not that I have one, just a thought... Seems you would need one in a reversed configuration, then you can select your draw line to feed.

That's interesting but I would like to be able to switch from the cab. I do have an old solenoid switch for dual tanks but it doesn't have a very big inlet/outlet. I'm running 1/2" line to the carb. I wonder if anyone makes a bigger size one?

Wouldn't you only need this though in an "emergency" situation, just something to get you home without getting dirty. If so, a few fittings should take up the difference.

Equip each pump with a one-way flow check valve.

I guess the check valves would be the simplest solution. I could then wire a three way switch for either pump or both for the strip.

I think a compressor service company would have some appropriate valves. Compressors often have oil in the airstream so I am guessing they would be gasoline-proof also. You might like two seperate toggles with indicator lamps, that way you get all four states cheap and reliable, just a suggestion. GL
