well with the performance mods on the 72 f-100 i recently purchased iam going to lift it as well iam stuck between a 4" with 33's or a 6.5" with 35's ...now the interesting part is the truck isnt all 72. the body was redone and sat ontop of a 76 f-150 4x4 frame and running gears. as well the truck has a 2 piece rear drive shaft. i have never delt with one of these with a lifted truck. would i be alright length wise with the 4" and or the 6.5"? as well with the drive train and frame being a 76 should i swap it over to the 78-79 steering? or leave it be? any and all advice and opinions are much appreciated. as well any info on were to pick up a decently priced lift for the truck...iam kind a parcial to superlift but iam open for any and all opinions on different lifts and what all components come with the kits.....thanks again
I don't know about '67-'72, but '73-'79 don't need any lift at all to clear 33's. Just like a 4" will clear 35's. A 6.5 thoeretically will clear 37's. Is it a longbed or short? By 2 piece driveshaft, do you mean it has a carrier bearing? One good thing is you've got disc brakes, '76 was the first year the F-series came with discs in front. Superlift is a good brand, Skyjacker has some good complete lifts too.
well threefiftyone the new beast is a longbed and yes it has a carrier bearing in the rear shaft there is like a 2' shaft comming out of t-case then carrier bearing then the rest of the shaft. it has 32's under it now but i think clearing 33/12.5's would be a tight fit on the front end but in that case i might just go with the 4" or maybe ill go radical and jack it to the sky..who knows for now just looking for some input....thanks again
In my opinion, that doesn't sound factory. Usually vehicles with carrier bearings are extended cabs or crew cabs, no matter what bed length. Carrier bearings are there to eliminate long drive shafts.
truthfully i dont know myself the truck is kind of a heinz 57 you know a little of everything. dont get me wrong the truck was put together well but it has a little of everything under it.
