My question is why can't Autozone read the codes with the obd-II scanner when the warning light is not on. From what I've read here in the forums it seems to be a problem of knowledge on the part of the guy operating the scanner.
Is there something I can do to help educate them.
Yup that does seem to to be an operator type problem. I guess you get what you pay for
If the check engine light is or has been on there should be trouble codes stored in memory.
They should also be able to do an engine running test.
Ya know what? I wonder if the Autopuke guy will let ME play with his pretty little yellow box for a about 20 min. Yea I kinda dout it too. Can anyone tell me if the superchips microtuners built in obd-II scanner really works the same?
I believe that it does but Ken (webmaster) would be able to tell you for sure.
You might want to ask him in the Computer Chips and Tuners forum which is a ways further down on the main forum page.
Ya know, one of those Equus OBDII code readers only costs about the same price as ONE dealership code reading. At least up here in my town that is the way it is. My dealership wanted $140 to hook me up and read the codes on my wife's Winstar, and the local Canadian Tire store sold me a code reader for $149. Turned out that the problem with the Winstar was the fuel pump relay inside the Constant control relay module (which isn't where all the other relays are - one of Ford's better ideas- Not) and anyway, it did not cast a code, so Ford would have probably made one up. Now, however, I have a code reader which also will reset them. I believe this reader will not be any good for 2004 and newer, and can be corrected here if I am mistaken.
Aayyupp, that would be a good price. It is in Amurican dollars. Mine was about the same in Canuckian buckians. Ours up here have gotten more expensive and now go on sale for $199, so I guess they must be better models (although strangely, they look identical) who knew? Ha!
