Headliner

Does Anybody Have Any Idea How Much A Headliner Would Cost To Get Redone In An 85 F150 Single Cab Maybe Somebody Has Had One Done

I've seen headliners redone advertising for $150. But I did mine and it was actually quite simple. The headliner material was available at the local material store on a wide roll. I used two cans of spray adhesive. Peel off the old headliner and clean all the foam backing away that is stuck to the cardboard. Spray the adhesive from the center out to one side and with the headliner rolled up place the middle in the center of the roof liner. Gradually unroll the the headliner keeping wrinkles out. Then spray the other side and repeat the placement. I used a fiberglass roller (looks like a paint roller but has an array of washers instead of a pad.) to roll out the material after I laid it down.

Good luck.

Scott, what adhesive did you use? I did my headliner in a similar fashion with a spray can of 3M contact adhesive. Looked like a real pro job...till the first hot day, then it all wrinkled and I'm back to square one.

oh no not good news for me, I just fixed my headliner with the 3m adhesive,I cleaned off the old foam stuff then I just flipped it over clean off all the dust, cut the fabric too size. rolled the fabric around a broom handle and applied the adhesive to the first 6 inches of the head liner same to the first 6 of the fabric slolwy i unrolled it while removing any wrinkles. I did it 6 inches at a time spraying the headliner spraying the fabric, wait a few minutes, then letting the newly spraid areas touch smoothing the wrinkles as I went. I cut slits at the fold downs to get the proper contour. the slits are hidden by the interior trim pieces rather nicely.
It cost about 10 dollars in total and about 1-2 hours of my time.
But if that sucker drops when it gets hot out

I don't remember the brand. I got it at Wal Mart. My headliner is now about two years old or more. My problem is that it is starting to fade. And I know about hot days. During the summer it is nothing for the inside of my truck to get over 110. I remember it is a blue can. Sorry can't be more help there.

I redid my headliner too....about 8 months ago or so, during summer time when it was about 110 degrees....still looks like new. I used the 3M Spray Adhesive (the heavy duty kind), and used replacement black carpet. Worked like a charm! Looks great too. Really looks good, cause I also put in that same replacement carpet on my back wall of my cab around the back window, map light, seat belt covers, etc. Looks really good too cause I redid my interior black. I got the spray adhesive at Hawley's Paints but you can find it at Walmart, Kmart, Target, Kragen Auto Parts and Napa Auto Parts. The Carpet can be found at Walmart and Kragen Auto Parts for about $10 a roll (one roll will do a one-piece headliner). Also one big can of spray adhesive will do one headliner too. Make sure you get a big can or a few littler cans and use a lot of spray adhesive just to make sure it sticks good enough.

Good luck!

There is a post from a month ago on this with some good suggestions also.

The easiest thing to do is just pull the headliner out and forget about it. The inside is painted to match and is usually in like new condition. All the trim pieces mate up, the only thing that doesn't mesh is the dome light - it doesn't seem to seat tight to the metal roof with the head liner gone.

Yeah, noisey in the rain too. With the trim off round the perimeter, I filled the roof cavity with expanding foam, quietens things down a bit and it stopped an annoying cab vibration I had when going through the gears.

THE 3m WILL work fine if done right.... also you can put custom 'hot-rod' designes..... pro tip: use 1/4 foam board to cut out the design of choice (flames, FORD insignia, ect.) glue it down to the panel board of the the headliner, then glue the material down over it, making sure to spay an extra amount over the 'design', being very careful to seat the material in the fine details of your design. The finished product will look very sharp and VERY professional.

ohh and note: when cutting the foam board use a razor blade, keeping it at a 45 degree angle away from the design.

When my headliner was sagging and rubbing against the top of my head, I thought it was time pull it out. I tried to put the fabric back on with new adhesive, but being a super cab it got tedious. I finally ripped the fabric off and painted the cardboard the same colour as my interior. Looks alright!

In response to the question "what adhesive did I use?" it was Duro All Purpose Adhesive. Still have a couple of cans.
