I've had the same problem for at least two years after replacing the original unit with an aftermarket rebuilt (OER I think)...I feel your pain Brother
no voltage was at the clutch. i can run 12volts to clutch and it will work. funny thing happened today. it started working again. iam puzzled what stopped it from working. i guess i will have to waite for it to fail again.
The pick-up unit mounted next to the low side suction valve is most the time the problem. It goes and comes sometimes. If you place a jumper across the terminals it will engage.
Muffinman, can you elaborate? What is this low side suction valve? Can it cause a low pressure on the switch on the accumulator? Are there other pressure sensors in the system?
On my van, the EEC also controls a relay that ultimately switches the A/C compressor. The relay is located under a cover behind the battery. I think the EEC takes a number of signals, including the accumulator switch and throttle posistion, to switch the compressor. I don't know all that goes into it, but I don't believe it is just the pressure switch.
when mine quit i did short out the switch on the suction valve and compressor would not come on. iam still baffled. mine is still working at the time but i know it probably will quit this summer. maybe it is the relay.
