I just ordered my Predator this morning after saving enough money to finally do so. I'm a bit worried about my EGT's - my truck is completely stock performance wise and I'm wondering what kind of EGT's I should expect. I don't think I should even touch the 100HP mode, and the 65HP mode might be too much? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I know you will all say "Get some gauges" and I appreciate the help, but at this point money is a little tight for a Pyrometer, install kit, and pod.
Also, to clear things up, what is the maximum temperature for exhaust gases going through the turbo? I hear 1300*(F)
Thank you ahead of time! Looking forward to the replies.

Agreed... and REAL quick i would either straight pipe it or get a better flowing muffler...
I have a turbo back on mine, and have had the predator running since 1-14, the day Motorhaven releaed it...
No problems - unless you count when I de-program it and run it stock ---
it's TOO slow and gets poorer mileage !
Cruisn: I've been running mine in 65hp mode with no exhaust and no gauges. However, I drive it like a baby most of the time (I bought the Predator primarily for better, smoother shifts and mileage improvement - both of which make it well worth it). I plan on towing my boat in the next couple of weeks, but I may run the stock tune just to be safe -- until I can afford to get the exhause and gauges.
I've had the Predator for about 4 months now and the only problem i have is in the 100HP setting, i get a bunch of black smoke when i get on it hard. Any one else have that problem? i still drive in the 100HP cuz iI love power.
note: I have a Banks catback exhaust and some gauges to keep an eye on everything.
Thanks for the help guys, don't stop talkin though Lookin for all the opinions out there
running the 65hp is fine with the stock exhaust and no guages even if your towing up to 7000lbs. We haven't been able to get our egt's over 1000 pre turbo pulling 11000 with the 65hp. Hey if your in the area of st. louis there is a big ford racing event at gateway international the world ford challenge and there will be a big diesel class in that event. Stop by if you get a chance it is good times
What weight boat/load are you towing?? I ran my truck with the Predator installed 65HP, and the truck in stock config. with NO problems without gauges for a couple thousand miles.. Had to remove it for service/warranty work.. I was told by the "good folk" at Motorhaven, that it's safe (my decision in the end) to tow up to the trucks capacity in stock config. But the variables for higher EGT's are outside temps, and altitude and of course heavy loads/% grade.. Why not use it in tow/haul 45HP when towing until you get your gauge to "help" with the concern.. I still have my EGT gauge sitting here in the box.. Installing (hopefully) this week and will post, both stock, and 65 HP temps (unloaded).. Although everyone can probably give you a good guesstimate, the final numbers may/will vary and should be monitored with a gauge as cheap insurance.. If the engine was to get that hot, the turbo would be the last of my worries, allthough a little pricey!! and definetly more than a EGT gauge!! BUT,, make sure when you buy your gauges, you buy them from MOTORHAVEN!! (If you talk to "KEN" Tell'm Hayapower! sent Ya!!)
Honestly, I just don't think it's worth the risk. I don't want to get stuck 3-4 hours from home because of extra hp (explain that one to the wifey as we are sitting there in the blazing sun waiting for a tow). I won't run 65hp towing until I get my exhaust and gauges.
