I just bought a 1985 ford f150 and the problem is that speedometer gas guage and the horn dont work are these tied together with one fuse or something like that or are these three seperate problems.please help Im reADY TO START DRIVING MY NEW OLD TRUCK.
Should be separate. You should have a 20 amp fuse for your horn, located on the lower left hand side of the fuse box. Check it. If it is good, check to see if you have power to the horn when someone is pushing the horn button. If you have power, the horn itself is probably bad. If the fuse is good but you don`t have power, pull the two screws out of the back of the steering wheel off and see if you have power to your horn button. You may have to pull your steering wheel with a steering wheel puller and verify that the two metal ring surfaces are not rusted on back of the steering wheel. These ride on the two little buttons that stick up through the column. The buttons and the metal rings need to have good contact. If you have cruise control, you should also have a horn relay mounted under the dash by the left hand side of the steering column. If you don`t have cruise control, you may not have the rings I mentioned before behind your steering wheel. It may not have the relay without cruise control either. Speedometer works with a cable. One way to check is to unhook the cable where it mounts to your tranny. Check the nylon gear on the end where it goes into the tranny. Check the gear inside the tranny. Make sure the cable turns freely. If it does, connect a drill motor to it and run it. Have someone watch your speedometer and see if it works. Make sure your drill is running the right direction. You should pretty much be able to pinpoint where your problem is then. As far as your fuel guage, the fuel level senders in your fuel tanks are probably bad. It is a common problem on these older model Fords. I have never replaced one. You would probably be ahead by dropping the tank or removing the bed to change them out. Hope this helps.
