The V6 engine is ready to go but the Ford people have backed off on the project for a couple years (I heard 2005). blueovalnews.com may have some more up to date information.
I posted this on the 2004 F150 board, but thought I might as well put it here too - I got word today from Ford that the V6 diesel project has been cancelled altogether, though this does appear to differ with Joe's report that it has merely been delayed. Ford said that the business model wasn't "viable", which might mean that in a couple years they'll run the numbers again and introduce the diesel if they decide it'll be profitable enough. Either way, it looks like it'll be a while until the F150 gets a diesel...
Oh, and Ford has an exclusive contract on the V6 diesel with Navistar until 2010 - so that'll be the diesel they use if/when they put one in before then. (Ford's contract with Navistar for the V8 diesels lasts until 2012.)
We supply parts to Navistar for the 7.3L, but not for the V6 - so Joe will probably have a much better idea if/when Ford decides to begin using the V6 diesel. I think '05 model year would be the very earliest, but I think even that is unlikely since Ford tends to move very slowly when making decisions.
