97 F 350 cold start problems PSD
Hi, My 97 F-350 has "started" to cause lots of white smoke & hard starting as the weather cooled. I take it the glow plug system is the root of the problem. About the same time, I had to replaced the relay aft of the passenger side battery. (wouldn't cycle closed in 1 out of 10 starts attempts) Also that relay has two smaller green wires on the same down stream side terminal with the larger wire going to the starter, if I got it back together correctly. Is that right ?
When doing so, I disconnected the right side battery. Did that mess anything up, other than the radio presets, clock ?
Need location of glow plug components & wiring diagram for glow plug system if posible.
Have a month left the 5 year power train warranty with the $100 deductable, and have planned to have Ford look it over. Wise move or not ? This was the only problems with this PU for 5 years, but I know, it's just broke in.... Thanks in advance,Dave

The glo plugs are under the valve covers (the gasket for the valve covers are re-usable) and the wireing for them are in the same connectors as the wiring for the injectors. They are the ones that look like they plug into the valve covers. I think they are the last 2 pins or the 2 outside pins, but dont take my word on that part. If you go to Ford they should be able to print out a wire diagram for ya.

Think I may have found the trouble (me). The power going to the glow plug relay, ended up on the starter side of the relay by mistake, when I either was cleaning the terminal ends, or later when I replaced a intermittent relay last week.
