Should I purchase the Air Raid Intake system for my 2004 F-150 FX4 SCAB or wait for the K&N. I heard that they are both about the same, performance wise. what do you think
I have the Airaid intake and the thing works awesome. Sounds really cool. As for increase in mileage it is still a little early to tell, only have 300 mi so far. I did haul some wood yestarday and filled up before starting. Pulled 2000-2500 lb of wood about 30 miles on the highway, then a load 10 miles on back roads. Normally the gauge hits 3/4 at 95 miles. Gauge read 3/4 and I had 120 miles. I think the thing works and would recommend the airaid.
I was looking at air intakes for the new 5.4L.
Under the hood, the design looks pretty damn good except that it's all plastic.
It gets air straight from the wheel well then makes one 90 degree turn into the filter box then straight into the engine. It looks like a great stock design and I don't see how anything could help it more than maybe three things:
1. Replacement drop in filter.
2. A little less drastic bend.
3. Replace plastic with metal tubing.
Anyone care to educate me on how a replacement kit would really help?
I've had absolutely zero issues with my truck until I installed an Air Raid system. The first time I drove it after I installed it, I could clearly tell that the idle was much lower and that the shift points for the transmission had changed. I got it out on the road and now I have a bad vibration between 1800-2000 rpm's when the thing drops out of overdrive (going up a hill at highway speeds) that never existed before. I don't see how the intake could do this, I'm wondering if unplugging the battery (step 1 in the instructions) somehow dumped some programming in the engine/transmission management system. When it "kicks down" it sounds (and feels) like I'm running over the ridges they put on the side of highway to keep you awake. Scary. Everything was perfect on this truck before this- just 3,200 miles. Any ideas?
Oh by the way, the Air Raid did make my throttle response instantaneous- no hesitation at all! Just hope to figure the vibration issue out....
I know k&n has a mandrel bent aluminum tube which I think looks a hell of a lot better than those other intakes but thats just me. As far as the other brands....I heard volant was having problems ....not sure about air raid isnt that a bug spray? I did some research with the K&N and found that on thier web site they specify that Their product will not void your vehicles warranty
