I was looking around in the boneyard today for a front bumper and 4 stock steel wheels for my 71 F250 Camper Special (2wd). I happen to notice a truck there of similar vintage with front disk brakes - which got me thinking about swapping over to disks. I'm sure at least one of ya'll have done this. Any reason this cannot be done? Anything I need to be looking out for? All input is appreciated. Don't want to buy a bunch of junk if I'll not be able to use it. By the way - does $45.00 dollars for a (stock non-split rim) wheel sound a bit high to any of ya'll? Thanks in advance!
There's a tech article about doing the swap. Click on the "tech articles" on the upper right of the page. $45 for a stock wheel is too much unless it's something like a 16.6 x 9.75. I wouldn't pay more than $15. But that's just me. There should be plenty of stock wheels out there. You must have been wearing a business suit when you walked into that boneyard.
I wanted to head up to that Portland swap, but had prior engagements. That's a once a year thing, right? I also hear there's a big swap in Washington as well.
This was my first time at the Portland swap meet, so I'm not expert on it, but I'm pretty sure it's annual. My big bro, who lives outside Portland, got me down there. He said that on the same weekend, there were two big swapmeets in Portland, one at the Expo, where we went, and another not too far away near Portland Meadows. Both are near the I-5 bridge to Washington. He tells me there's a good meet in Albany, Oregon, in November, and I'm hoping to go. That's a couple hours south of Portland on I-5. I don't know the dates yet. That big one in Portland has me hooked; it's really interesting, even if you're not looking to buy.
