Okay, any idea's on a lack of throttle response. Bear in mind that I just found out that the first cat on the driver's side broke up, and went into my second one. I was able to dump the remaining pieces out, but I'm afraid it has already damaged the second one. The plugs are new NGK's, the wires are new as of Friday ( autozone, Borg Warner). The throttle body is clean, and I run at least 89 octane fuel. I can't check my timing, because there are no number's on my balancer, and also the Hayne's manual say's there should be a plug to disconnect, called the "spout" connector. This should remove all advance from the timing and just give me base timing.
Why are there no number's on my balancer??? Where is my "spout" connector??? Has anyone ever played with the cam position sensor??? There is a connector where the "spout" connector should be, but there is nothing in it. There is nothing to disconnect. The truck runs fine at upper rpm, but is a dog down low, it sounds like it's barely running when accelerating from a dead stop.
It really sounds like a timing issue, but how can I check it myself without number's or a " spout" connector???
How many times can I say "spout" connector before it get's really old??
Travln,
Hey, I am not for certain what the problem is but is sounds like you are on the right track. When you loose responsiveness, the first things to look at are your Spark plugs , wires, and distributor (cheaper fixes), then your intake and exhaust, then your timing. I would think your local mechanic can take a look at the timing for you rather cheap. If you know anyone with connections to a specialty shop, I would try that first. As for the "spout", go to www.google.com, click on the images tab, type "ford spout", and see if the first picture helps. I was not able to get a direct link but I hope this helps. Sorry, I couldn't do more.
Hey , I appreciate any help I can get right about now. As I stated, my Haynes manual shows a picture of this connector, but I have no "shorting bar" in mine. You are supposed to disconnect this when you check base timing. I can't disconnect what I don't have. Anyway's, I'm gonna try to get back on track w/this soon. I have been battling an overheat problem, as read in Brian's thread. Looks like we may have a solution.
