Enamel

Unfortunately, not aware of FTE forum when decided to support local paint supplier who suggested Acrylic Enamel. When questioned about clear coat, said was not necessary. This was about 8 months ago. Appears the clear coat was an important process that should have been done. This was about 9 months ago and have waxed the truck. Is it too late to apply the clear coat, and would it be too labor intensive to strip the wax.

Any suggestions, info would be appreciated.

Thanx,
dave

If you used just straight enamel you can clear it. You would need something like prepsol wax remover first. It is a wipe on wipe off job. Then you would need to lightly wet sand the paint with around 600 grit wet or dry using water as a cleaner lube. Usually from a garden hose works well. You need to do this to provide 'tooth' for the clear to adhere to. What you are doing is getting rid of the gloss. After that you dry it, tack it off and mask all chrome and glass. Cover the wheels and shot a couple of coats of clear.

Yep it is labor intensive but it is worth it.

Not sure if it makes any difference, but it was the Acrylic Enamel paint. Sounds like have to prep as if going to repaint. Wonder if should leave as is, keep it waxed, then see how many years before need to repaint and clear coat.

thanx,
dave
