I have an 02' F350 PSD with 4,000 miles on it. Changed oil/filter at 3,000 with Pennzoil 15W-40. During the last thousand miles or so, and different fuel fill ups, I've noticed an increased amount of BLUE smoke at startup when cold only. (after sitting 6 or more hours) Smoking usually lasts about 30-45 seconds and then clears up. Engine runs smooth during this. Although it's not billowing clouds, it is more than I would expect and have experienced with other rigs, and it does drift into neighboring yards. Temps at night are not below freezing yet or I might expect this and plug it in. I had a 92' Suburban that did this exact thing and GM replaced the valve seals which solved the problem.
Other than this, I'm really impressed with the truck. (especially after supertuning)
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Oct-02 AT 06:52 PM (EST)]My new dump truck does the same thing, it has 1700 miles on it, i changed the oil at 1500 and will change it at 3000, and then stay on the every 3000 miles on the oil change. But my pickup very really blows any blue smoke on start up, the dump truck is exactly what you stated, only on cold starts and about 30-45 secs. Let me know if you find anything.
On Edit: BTW I run Rotella 15W-40.

Just my $.02, FDNY13....and DistinctiveDave, just watch oil consumption at first...this will tell if an exorbatant amount of oil is being chugged. If not, I would just let it be. After visiting my dealer....and during a little bull @$%# session, the tech said that Ford...and correct me if I'm wrong...considers 1qt every 900 miles is acceptable....and with this even if your rigs are using more than we all consider normal...IMO 1qt every change....the dealer probably will tell you consumption is within "acceptable range" Not acceptable to us, but it is hard to fight city hall
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Nov-02 AT 10:02 AM (EST)]Thanks for the feedback. No noticeable oil use/burning to date. Will experiment with different oils, etc. I still have this gut feeling it's the valve seals. I could live with a single blast of smoke...but not 30-45 seconds when it's well above freezing out there.
Well, FDNY13, you still have plenty of waranty left, so just watch things and get 'er back to the dealer....if anything just for the record.....if things don't even out. Mine has just over 6000 miles now, and some things I noticed that I questioned at first have "gone away" with the miles.
