393 durability

the 5.8l in my 95 f250 is getting a little tired. its over 8500 gvw and was wondering how long these stroker motors can live. i do some towing but lots of mudding. i'm swapping a 60 into the front w/detroit to match the detroit in the rear. i have 4.10 gears now and want to see if they'll do ok with 38" ground hawg radials. i'm trying to save some cash from the 60 swap. the motor has about 1 - 2 years left in it so now is a good time to start shopping. what do i need and what can i keep from the truck. i know i need new heads and stuff. any testiminials about longevity would be nice. i'd like around 400 - 450 hp to send the mud flying. will my e4od survive or will i have to swap to a c6 i'd hate to lose my o/d.

with that tall of a tire you will want at least 4.56 gears. if your motor is mass air equipped already then you will just need a custom chip burned , you may still need to upgrade your tranny a bit

He is wondering how long the stroker motor will last. Supposedly, the 393 should last as long as a 302, since it uses stock 351 rods and 302 pistions with a bigger crank. I was wonder that same question. I've heard people getting 80k miles out of a stroked 347 (that was with those old-style pistons with the pin in the oil ring), so I think as long as you don't try to destroy it, it should last over the 100k mi range without a problem.

there is a sensor between the airbox and the intake tube that connects to your throttle body
