The computer adjusts engine operation to air conditioner load. If there is no AC operation it dont mind. Shouldnt affect a thing negatively. I would reconsider removing it completely though. Even if it doesnt work, its presence adds value to your vehicle. Remove it and you will get a substantial deduction on trade in value. IMHO
I am putting the 97 4.0 (that had A/C) into a 96 Ranger that never had it. And of course I am using the computer for the 97, So I needed to know if there would be any ill effects. I know it use to be that you would gain power without it, but now days with all the sensors and the computer you never know til' you check.
As for value, well I bought the 96 Ranger new with 4 miles on it (now 211K)and I expect the new 4.0 engine will add more value than take away. I plan on driving this long enough to wear the new engine out, so working correctly is more important than resale value, at least to me.
