QUESTION about misfire

I was just out in the dark watching the engine run and looking for any fire jumping, still trying to figure out the source of a mysterious miss that's been bothering me for awhile. I noticed that there is a glow coming from around each sparkplug. There is no distinct spark jumping, but the glow does flicker as the engine runs. What causes this?

Thanks,

That is spark energy escaping from the system. It is usually caused by loose fitting plug boots, or excessive resistance across the plug gap. This will definitely create a mysterious miss. What kind of wires and plugs are you running and at what gap?

Thanks for your answer.

The plugs are motorcraft, gapped .045. The wires are from Autozone, and I don't remember the brand. Both plugs and wires have about 6000 miles on them.

I would get some Motorcraft wires and install them with plug boot grease. O'Reilly's sells them. I used to get all the "house brand" parts, but have never been fully satisfied with them. A few tune ups ago I went back to all Motorcraft ignition components (other than Autolite plugs) and my random miss hasn't been back since. I don't remember ever having problems with a Motorcraft plug, but for some reason I always come back to Autolite after trying something else.

Thanks for the advice. I'll hit O'Reilly's after while and get some new wires.
