Just asking because this forum has been overwhelmed with trolls recently. I hope that's not the case here, but I always wonder when people don't own Ford's and post only in this forum.

Yes, and you can also contribute to the other forums on FTE as well. Most people "trolling" only frequent this forum for the obvious reasons.

All I know is that our past experiences with Dodge trucks have not been pleasant. First, the transmission went out at less than a month after purchase, brand new. Second, they did not honor the warranty with it, and third they very reluctantly refunded our money.

Hey, guys don't mean to take up for the "Dodge" guy, but this is the Ford vs Comp. forum, I welcome the different points of view. I'm a die-hard ford guy and I love my truck, and it's because of the competition that Ford keeps getting better and better. So brandon.....welcome to the the forums..

No, by all means, welcome, brandon507. I would also prefer a manual in a heavy duty truck. In my experience, though, Dodges have been junk over and over again. Sounds like you had a bad Ford. Sorry to hear that. Nothing, no matter what brand should have to have the tranny replaced at 30,000 miles, but by comparison, 65,000 miles with no problems is not a big deal. If I have to do anything other than oil changes in the first 125,000, then to me, it's too much maintenance. As far as the transmissions go, it's kind of sorry to point out that Dodge's manual is stronger than Ford's when the manuals aren't the strongest transmissions offered. Just wanting to look at it from a `top of the line` vs `top of the line` comparison. For the heavy-duty tranny, you'll have to get an automatic. Isn't this a brand new manual in the Dodge HD this year? Still, the gears are still too far apart for my personal preference, I like the closeness of the Ford's manual. Maybe your driving style is better suited to the Dodge, espcially since you've been through 2 Fords and had about the same luck with both of them.

I really think that all three make good trucks with a few bad trucks thrown in. Ford has had problems with the 6.0, but they are working hard on it. Apparently this computer driven programmin can be a bit tricky. Does not really matter though, they are planning a redesign of the motor at least in the next year or at the latest two (http://www.courierjournal.com/busine...rd23-6823.html)

My Dodge has thin paint and even thinner sheet metal. If a bird is flying high enough and takes a big enough dump I can expect a dent. They have had problems with their automatics in the past, but the new ones seem to be holding up decent. There is a problem with some thrust washer thing, but my dealer has not seen this problem yet. Their seats are hard as brick bats compared to the other two. Looks are in the eye of the beholder, but I love my Dodge.

Chevy seems small. The Dmax is good and reliable, Allison the same way. IFS leaves some to be desired if you do any real offroading, but I have a Jeep and a dune buggy, and an ATV for that. 2003 and up Chevy front ends are not my favorite, but they are growing on me.

It looks as if the '05 SD's are targeting the Dodges, and almost disregarding the Chevy and GMC's.

F vs D

I honestly liked both diesels, they both have their benefits, but what made the decision, $$ not involved, was the comfort of the Crew Cab F-250. Between long trips, family, and bad backs . . . it was pretty obvious which one would accomodate the best . . . . so we bought the Ford.

Engine-wise, i was torn evenly.

Yes I agree totally the crew cab F-250 is in a class by itself as far as crew cabs go. Nobody can match it. Dodge or chevy. Fords in a class by itself. The superduty is in a class by it self period. Every time I see a superduty all i gotta say is wow nobody can match it. The ford superduty will down as one of the greatest trucks ever made by ford or for that matter anybody. When it comes down to engines. They all have there good and bad points. But when it comes to the complete truck. Fords got it. In most polls even on dodge and chevy websites the superduty gets the most votes for the best looking truck on the road today.
