I have an 85 ford f150 with a 351 ho there is oil smoke coming out around the pcv.what could this be?the truck sat for a few years could this clear up after driving or is it something serious?
Try removing the PCV valve cleaning it, if it rattles, then it is most likely in working order....if not, then it could be stuck.
If the smoke coms out in a rythmic fashion, then You have blowby from worn piston rings.
I recommend draining about half a quart of oil....replacing it with marvel mystery oil and running for 20 minutes up and down the rpm range.
then drain and change oil and filter, adding some restore oil additive for high mileage engines will increase compression and help reduce smoking and oil consumption.
Pull some spark plugs, what do they look like? Oily? (worn rings or valve seals/guides), black carbon soot? (fuel mixture too rich), white glazed? (too lean), yellowish to brownish ash deposit (just right)
If oily deposit on the plugs, you may also want to replace the plugs, going up a notch in heat range.
If the truck has been sitting, perhaps while running it you can also spray small bursts of carb cleaner while revving it.
