If you got the green stuff in your truck, don't switch to the red stuff, if by the red stuff you mean the extended life coolant that you don't have to add SCA too. It will eat some of the seals and gaskets, or so I have read. Keep the green stuff and keep adding SCA when necessary. Sounds like your using the test strips when you say your measuring the pH. There are three panels on the test strips I have (fleedguard). Comparing the colors on the test strip panels with the provided chart lets you know if you need to add SCA or not.
The red stuff is the best antifreeze you can buy at this time but there are some problems with the longivity of the front cover and water pump gaskets (O-rings) according to engineering. Those gaskets were upgraded but I don't have the serial number of when that was done and I'm sure your engine has the old style gaskets if it is a '97. Even if you did have the upgraded gaskets, most vehicles come with radiators and heater cores with crimped on tanks which have an O-ring in them that has to be compatible with the coolant too. The best thing to do is stick with the green stuff and add the additive, in my opinion.
I can't find any test strips made for antifreeze in any of the local parts stores. I tested it using a hot tub ph strip and it was way up on the alkalotic end, does the additive raise or lower PH ?

International sales the test strips. The strips test for freezpoint,Molybdate and nitrite.
Ford doesn't sale them and they do not know what one is!
I was at an O'rielly's parts store today and ask about getting a kit to test my anti-freeze.WIX filters offers one for about $30.It came with 20 strips I think.
