A 400cid ?

My brother has a Ranger and he says it has a 400cid engine. I didn't know Ford made a 400. I can't remember what year he said the truck was. Maybe a 78 or 79? What engine is it?

They didn't start making Ranger's until 1983. But you're probably talking about an F-150 Ranger. There were several engines, including a 302, 351, and 460. And it looks like they offered a 400 in 1977-1980.

Sounds like a 400 Modified, the Cleveland version. Came as a 351M or a 400. Decent truck engine, not too many aftermarket parts for it these days.

Thanks everyone. I'll get the VIN from him this evening and we'll see what he's got. He is not very mechanically inclined, so he may not know what he has. He said that he took his truck to a mechanic and got the engine and transmission replaced just recently. Can't say what he paid for that. But at least he is happy with his truck.
