Hey y'all, I have a 302 (bored out 30 over) out of a '79 F-150 and it needs rebuilt.
I went to Summit to look for a rebuild kit, and they have them for just about every year 302 excpt for the the 79's. So my question is, can I use a different year rebuild kit for it? and also, is there any "Type" that you recommend? Thanks for all the info.
I am not sure when ford went to the one piece rear seal but that is one thing you have to watch out for when buying the kit. The kit will more than likely have all the diiferent gaskets in it anyways but it doesn't hurt to make sure you get the kit with the correct gaskets. So say a 78 kit should be fine.
You also didn't say if you were going to bore the block or just give the motor a basic rering and bearing job with new gaskets of course. If rebiring the block you need to have the shop check the block before buying a kit.
An older kit would have a more advanced timing chain from the factory so if the kit has a timing chain you may look into buying a kit for an older engine and get a little more out of the engine.
well, the block is already bored out, its now a 306. And I plan on rebuilding it basically to stock (besides the obviously bigger cylinders), but with an off-road cam, 4bl intake and 4bl carb.
