Installing aftermarket ignition switch help...

I just bought an '88 e150. The previous owner lost the keys and hacked out the ignition switch. I want to replace it with an aftermarket one instead of getting a whole new steering column (he really hacked it out). Does anyone know which wires I need to splice into to hook this up? I have the Hayes manual but I cannot make sense of the wiring diagrams.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't think you will ever get a universal aftermarket switch to work. There are too many poles and multiple contacts on the original switch. Of course I guess you realize the part that is broken on your column is purely mechanical, not electrical. The electrical part is mounted down lower on top of the column(at least on trucks it is).

I had problems with the steering colume on my Astro Van. I found a complet colume at a junkyard and installed it in one day. Was not all that expensive and not a real diffuclt job. Would recomment taking pictures of your current set-up before starting the job. I did that and it made the job easier. May be you best fix, espicially if you plan on keeping this for awhile.
