Late shifting
I have a 1979 F100 with a 302 and a C4 tranny. The truck was parked for about 3 months and now I have got it running again.
It seems to only shift into 3rd gear when I get up to 60mph or so. It also shifts VERY hard when it shifts into it. The 1-2 shift is like it was before I parked it to swap the carb and intake.
Also when i shifts down into 2nd the shift is very hard. This happens at about 45mph or so. The transmission kickdown seems to be working, if I get into it, it shifts down(hard) and when i let go it shifts back into 3rd(not so hard).
I swapped this transmission out of a 1975 LTD about a year ago. When i swapped it I changed the fluid and filter. The shop that looked at it last week said they though third was totally gone, but I don't think they drove it as fast as I did.
Any ideas?
