Engine Oil bypass filter

Hey yall.
I'm fixn to get an engine oil bypass filter system for my truck. I was just wondering how many of yall use one and if it's been worth the cost to you. I have to drive 250-300 miles per day so I think I'll be making my money back relitivly soon.

Engine Oil bypass filter

I bought one and put it in at 36,000 miles. Before installing it I sent a oil sample off that had 2000 miles on sample. Report came back great. I have yet to see a oil sample report that has been as good as my first oil sample since installing the unit. cost of filters, and cost of oil samples and the cost of the unit makes me wish that I wouldn't of bought into the hype. These things might be great on commerical trucks that hold a dozen gallens of oil. but for me I don't think that I will ever recoup my expenses.

What system did you use? I've heard good things about the Oil Guard system, however I was lookin to build my own using a baldwin filter (b164, 2 micron) that I've priced at about $50-$60. It beats $160+ and is the same thing minus the mounting bracket.

Hey dieselF350, I highly recomend a by pass filtration system, if You are putting on a bunch of miles! I have used them on two trucks Myself, including My PSD. I put on 11,000 miles per month on the PSD. The system saves Me time, money, and does a motor good. The system I use on the PSD, filters all of the oil approximately 19 times per hour! So soot does not have a chance to build up,and deplete the oil's additive package. The post by gseeders concerns Me. We discussed this in an earlier thread. The system may not be cost effective for someone not driving many miles, but if You are going to have a lot of seat time, the choice is easy. gseeders, if You want to sell Your system let Me know, I am sure I can find it a new home. diesel350, e-mail Me, and give You more info.

Engine Oil bypass filter

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Nov-02 AT 10:16 PM (EST)]Highway prisoner
Just wanted to thank you for the offer but I'am still collecting data.
I bought my truck in may of 2001 and I now have 53000mi. I am a numbers person and so far for me their not adding up. clearly to me from the 5 samples that I have taken not one sample has numbers equal to or less then the sample with 2000 miles on oil.(without the by-pass system). I bought the system mainly because the hype that it will clean my oil better with the system then without it. I haven't seen it through the numbers! Yes it has save time and has extended my oil changes but at what cost?(the wear metals are higher in my samples because of extended oil usage). The cost of the filters plus the cost of regular filter and the sample test and looking at wear metal numbers has me wondering! so for me I dont't think that it has been worth the strain on my brain and wallet! Just because it's not working out for me doesn't mean that it won't work for someone else. This is just about my experience.

I usually sell my trucks after 3 years or in the range of 150,000 miles and since the new 6.0 hype has hit I'am really getting the itch. I will find it hard to wait 2 more years!!

Thanks again for the offer!!

I havent bought into the 6.0 hype yet. I'll be sticking with my 97 PSD till she blows up. I'm not too hot on the way the SD's look, but maily I dont like to get a brand new motor. They always seem to have a few bugs left that need to be worked out.
