I'm new to the forum here, and i've seen this topic brought up numerous times ( a common problem i presume). The heating system. I have a 97 explorer sport, about 4 months ago i had the blend door replaced (a nice 850 bucks) because it was broken and i couldn't get any heat. No i have another problem. If i let the vehicle run for no less than 3 minutes (no touching the gas) then the heater will work, but the ac won't. If i start the vehicle and go or even wait a minute, the heater won't work the rest of the day and maybe for a couple days afterwards. The ac may work once in a while. When the heater does work it blows some serous heat. Can anyone help me out on this? Thanks.
You could have a clogged heater core, feel both hoses going into the heater core they should both be about the same temp if not your heater core is clogged, you can unclog it very ez.....What is the temp of the vehical when the heat does not work normal? As for the ac, what is the temp outside?? Is the compressor comming on? your probally just low on freon and can get a kit at your local auto parts store for about 20 bucks, or you can start with just the gauge, hook the gauge up to the low side and with the engine on and the ac set max and on high, check the pressure, make sure the compressor is on, if its not on your emty on freon and will probally need like 3 or 4 cans, but if it is on or cycling, the pressure should remain at 25-30 psi with the compressor ON,
An overheating engine will cause the AC to stop working because the PCM will shut it down. Low coolant or poor flow can cause heater failure and of course engine overheat. Low coolant can cause the temp guage not to correctly reflect overheating.
