Wiper Help
I have successfully rebuilt the vacuum motor for the windshield wipers on my 1959, but when I reinstalled it I could not get the motor to operate the wiper arms. After much head banging, I have decided that the problem is that the wiper arms (the ones inside the car that attach the wipers to the motor) do not allow the vacuum motor to travel its full stroke. Therefore, the mechanism that triggers the direction change of the motor is not being activated. The end result is that the motor will drive the wipers in one direction and then stop.
This is the first time I have encountered this type of issue. Does anyone know of a possible solution? I don't think I changed anything other than rebuilding and cleaning the motor. (The only other thing that I can think of is that since the wipers have never worked, it may be possible that the last person to rebuild the car used the wrong arms or wrong motor.)
