i am going to be building a 4 inch sytem for my 95 psd extended cab.i am a pipefitter my trade and picked up a bunch of 3 and 4 inch stainless pipe and fittings(sch10) wich i will TIG weld. i plan to get a manufactured 3 or 4 inch down pipe.wich one would be my best choice?wich company?now i plan to run 4 inch to the back than split of to daul 3 inch tailpipes.is there any difference between gasser mufflers and diesel?should i use two 3 inch or one four inch?
my truck has either a converter or a resenator under the cab and a muffler under the bed.would it be too loud with out mufflers? can you make it a diesel mellow sounding.jack k
For the exhaust system to be most effective, it should restrict the exhaust as little as possible. The turbo provides all the backpressure your engine needs, so getting the exhaust away from the turbo efficiently is the name of the game.
My system starts with a gutted EBPV, then a Hypermax downpipe, then expands to 4", where it goes through a huge Donaldson muffler, and into a mandrel bent 4" tailpipe from a Superduty. It exits behind the rear wheel, but does not sound mellow. In general, the more you muffle the sound, the more you restrict the exhaust.
I think you can get the tailpipe I mentioned at Advance Auto Parts for about $40. I built my entire system, from the downpipe back for less than $350. It would have been less than $300 had I gone with straight pipes, but that's a little too loud when you leave for work at 3:30am.
