Just use a hammer to punch it out. A punch and hammer to hit it back in. Listen for the solid hit when putting it back so you know its fully seated and make sure the splines on it are lined up right. Torque it to spec and check it often to make sure it doesn't loosen up. If it doesn't loosen up then your all set.

Most broken studs are due to over torquing the lug nuts, never use an impact wrench on lug nuts and they should be in the 100-120 ft-lb range. Sometimes if it's too tight it might not break in your hand, but it will on the road when hitting bumps.

Thats good to know, I just finished today, finally, cutting the stud anddisfiguered lug nut off my rear wheel whose tire blew a week and a half ago, the shop that did my brakes over torqed them and Oneold one stripped when trying to get it off with a lug wrench and later a breaker bar.
Possibly a stupid question, but wheres the best place to get a new stud. Im not sure your local parts stores cell them.
Also is it safe to drive on four studs for a while?

You can buy studs anywhere. I prefer my local Ford dealer or NAPA.

The rotor is probably attached to your front end by the bearing assembly. What year is your truck? I think most of these half ton trucks (if not all) have the rotors attached to the truck with the bearing assembly (if they are 2 wheel drive).

It is a 99 f150 4x4.It just has the nut and washer holding it on as far as I can tell, the spindle has splines on it and it looks like it should slide off with alot of help(hammer).I was told not to be shy with the hammer but I am not replacing the rotor, just a stud.I do not want to tear it up.

You can get a small block of wood (maybe a 10 inch long 2x4) and set it against the rotor then hit the wood and your rotor will be safe. Just an idea. I am not into the newer trucks. The newest truck I have worked on was a 96 F150 and before that a 91 F350. Sorry.....
