Waaahooo!!! I finally got a new job. I am now (as soon as I sign the papers) a civil engineer. I was one of 70 applicants for the job, and couldn't be happier. I applied at the end of February, answered some questions in March, had an interview 2 weeks ago and just found out yesterday. I am excited to get a new challenging job and to get the instant $5/hr raise (that will definately help). Can't wait to get started!!
Thanks guys! I definately took the long road to get here, which makes it feel that much better. I originally started out as an engineering major when I started college in 1995, but after partying a little too much and not studying enough I flunked out of the program. I buckled down and got a degree in Soil Science, but that didn't open a lot of doors for me. I took a job in a lab, got some experience, moved to another lab and they offered to pay for me to go back to school while working for them. I jumped at the chance and put my nose to the grindstone and 3 years later I had my engineering degree. I was very proud of this degree (so were my parents) and getting this job is the icing on the cake.
GREAT JOB Its nice to see that the hard work paid off for you. I think I can speak for every one here that you can add FTE to the list of people that are proud of you.
Thanks everybody. The job is with a state department of transportation, so I will be doing a lot of road work (planning, safety, construction, materials, etc..). I officially go on the clock next Monday, but my boss wants me to stick around for another week or so to help train my replacement. Again, thanks for the support.
Congradulations on the job. I've been looking forever without any luck. Finally found one, but it isn't doing me much good. Got a total of 17 hours last week. Good thing its not working behind the counter for the DMV, or there would be alot of people waiting in line to ring your neck. If the company that wants you to train your replacement is the one that help you pay for the schooling I would defignately do anything to help. Thats hard to find in an employer, most could care less about their employees.
