I was getting 1-2 lbs of pressure from the boost gauge. My up pipes to the turbo were leaking real bad. I changed them out and still no more than 1 – 2 lbs of boost and no power. Ford has had it since yesterday, no codes are coming up, he has been on the hot line 3 times with Ford co., running all kinds of tests. Still no power. The turbo fan on the intake is good. Just lost for answers, while the meter is ticking @ $70 bucks an hour.
I'm not real familiar with the vans, but have you checked all the intercooler pipes? Sometimes they can have a tendency to come loose which will cause a huge loss in boost pressure. I would have them pressure test the whole system, as well as check all the o-rings and oil lines for the turbo. Do you have any idea about what the exhuast side of the turbo looks like? Was there an excessive amount of oil on that side of the turbo? Also, why were the up pipes leaking? Were they rusted out or what?
Just got off the phone with Ford Mechanic, He said he disconnected the tail pipe to run some tests on the turbo. He said he’s getting all kinds of Boost now… .
He said the converter is clogged.
Do I really need the converter??? They want a $1000 bucks just for the converter.
You don't need it, but if you have any kind of state safety inspections you may run into problem. I'm yankin my cat off this weekend and replacing it with a straight 4" pipe. You could just keep it and gut it...
