Vibration

I have a 2000 F250 Crew Cab and have recently picked up a vibration in the 55mph range. The weird part is, it only occurs when the fuel tank gets below a half. It is at the dealer as we speak and they can feel the vibration. However, they cannot find a reason for it. It should be noted, this started to happen after the same dealer replaced a bad u-joint at the pinion.

Thanks for any help,
Chris

Well, TurboPilot, the good news is that your dealer actually felt the vibration. I would post their findings, whether they fix it or not, and take it from there. However, them admitting there is a vibration is a good thing! Most on this site can feel vibrations most would never....including me. I guess if you are really bothered by vibrations...as I am, you can pick up things the dealer can't. Let us know what the dealer says and I am sure somebody here will be able to point you in the right direction.

if it happened after the u-joint was replaced ... perhaps they got joint out of "phase". this means the joint is not lined up with the joint in front of it PERFECTLY. One tooth out and they will cause a vibration no matter how much fuel is in the tank.

Well I just got off the phone with them, and after having it on the jack stands running it up to 55mph, they played played with different positions of a hose clamp on the drive shaft and seem to think they cured it. I have yet to drive so time will tell....

That doesn't sound like the correct way to balance a drive shaft! hose clamp? If it was mine it would be going to a drive shaft shop and get balanced properly.
over and out

gseeders, I agree. I have used clamps in the past just to determine where the shaft need balancing, but never as a permanent cure. TURBOPILOT, when you pick up your truck, explain to them that this is NOT a proper repair. You need to make sure the shaft is balanced/weighted properly. They may need to send it to a shop that fabricatesbalances drive shafts. Also, like above, make sure the shaft is in proper phase.
