8.8 rearend

I have a friend with a 88 Bronco. A car clipped his passenger side tire about a week ago and bent his axel. He didn't know his axel got bent, and the bent axel wore his pumpkin out. We were wondering how difficult it would be to switch from a 8.8 to a 9 inch rear. Since he has ABS would we have to get an axel assembly from a vehicle equipped with ABS?

It has 3.55 gears so we would like to stay with those so we don't have to change the gears in the front also. Thanks

an 8.8 is just as strong as a 9 inch in stock form. save the money and just put the same axle in. if you want rob an explorer for the disc brakes cause they'll bolt right in. unless you wheel like a maniac the 8.8 should be fine

The explorer axle is not as wide as the F-150's axle. The 9" won't work because it doesn't have an ABS sensor. Use an 8.8 out of an F-150 or E-150. Should be 31 spline with UNEQUAL axle shaft lengths.

the disc brakes fit a stock 8.8 from an f series or bronco. i know the axle is to narrow but discs are nice to have

Ohh IC, so your saying take just the brakes...I thought you meant the whole axle...

what would happen with the eec if you did use a 9" with out the abs sensor? you could still use it couldn't you? you just obvusly would't have rear abs

Doesn't the Exploder use the 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern same as the Rangers? Those discs won't fit an F-150's axles
