Yeah, I'm a diesel newbie with an '02 and an 80 horse SCMT program running in it, it is the most unbelieveable work vehicle I've ever owned. What's not to like? I wish Ford had gone ahead and put a diesel in the F-150 trucks, I would have bought one of them just for commuting, they'd probably get the better part of 30 MPG.

The SCMT 80 horse setting is fantastic. More than enough power for passing or merging on the highway.
I wouldn't have believed a 7,000 pound vehicle loaded with a tool box and my construction equipment could get up and boogie like it does, and get around 20 MPG on the highway, too.
I honestly think the the engine is running quieter with the 80 HP program than it did off the dealer's lot. Night and day improvement in throttle response. She starts right up and runs smooth as silk, pulls hard all the way up to the red line. Man, what a star ship.

Did you change your downpipe and exhaust? How about a pyrometer (egt) guage. My SCMT is on the way and I won't be running the 80 HP setting until I change the exhaust and get a guage to watch the temps.....I don't want meltdown. I know you can run the 80 without too much trouble unless you pull heavy, but I am curious about ever day driving.

None of those things, when I tow the heavy trailer, once a month I'll run the 60 HP program, when I'm not towing, I'll switch to the 80 HP program.

Superchips says that the 80 HP program is safe for loads up to 4,000 pounds, it's only beyond that where they recommend a pyrometer. So I figure one isn't a necessity if I'm not towing anything, only a few hundred pounds of tools and just driving normally without any extended heavy throttle operation. The guys that do have pyrometers and using the SCMT in a daily driver aren't reporting dangerous temperatures.

Yes, I am planning to get a pyrometer and boost gauge someday, but I just can't afford them right now.

I got my SCMT the other day and went for the 80 off the bat. Turn a decent PSD into a rocket. I left a teenage in a honda spinning the first time I took it out. I run about 140 miles a day commuting and have not changed the down pipe nor exhaust. I'll switch programs to the 60 when I pull by 8K Lb trailer (that's if I don't add the pyrometer and other guages before hand). Can't wait to see the MPG numbers, but sense they have increased. I just have to lay off that throttle at every light , but then it's fun to watch the faces when my X gets up and goes.

Much of a difference, let's see, starts easier, idles quieter, can not feel transmission changing gears other than watching the tach. Want to pass, step on the gas and watch the speedo, your moving. Reaction time from throttle to feeling it...0. Just put 1/2 tank of gas thru and MPG went up 1 MPG. But then I'm still toying with that extra power. I also did not raise the speed limit (which is an option on the tuner). Sorry I waited so long. I figure the savings in fuel will pay for the tuner in less than a year.
