Call me crazy, but I just bought a 2000 Ranger 2wd with 2.4 l engine auto trans
extended bed with 166,000 miles on it. So far I am very happy wit the way it runs except that I notice at speeds above 60MPH It feels as if it loses power.
I have not attempted any fix yet and was actually searching the net for info
when I found this site This my first experience with Fords so far Its been a good one. Any thoughts would be appreciated thanx.
Keep us posted on how it goes. Before you crawl under it check your Haynes manual for the tool you will need to replace the filter, and for how to release fuel pressure.
To releive fuel pressure unplug the enertia cut-off switch(passenger side floor board under the dash just above the carpet)and crank engine over for 15 seconds.Get the tool from auto zone for $5.put the tool in place then put a open end wrench between it and the filter and apply a little pressure, this wont pop it off but pulling on it will.
I've never shut the fuel off when I've changed the fuel filter in my ranger, and the fuel has never been under much pressure. Sometimes I lose a couple drips of fuel but it's not a problem. Besides, I'd rather get a little gas on me than crank the engine without fuel...
