I am posting this for my uncle, he just purchased a LS40 from lone Star Classics and the thing will not stop overheating. This car is a GT40 kit that has the Zetec 4cyl in it, what they did was take an entire front cradle assembly from a Focus ZX3 and move it to the rear of the car while relocating the radiator to the far rear, now the problem we face is the thing cant get enough air, we have replaced all of the stainless steel louvers with mesh grills and on the rear section we installed a modified WRX STi hood scoop to pull in more air but it still overheats. we also wrapped the exhaust and the coolant tubes with sheilding wrap (the dang coolant piperan right above the exhaust manifold, only about 1/2" clearance between the two). What should we try next?
We are trying not to have to move the radiator to the front because that opens up a new Pandoras Box of problems, like relocate the A/C accumulator and running coolant lines and then purging all ofthe air out of them. I am going insane with this problem. Heck! the car caught fire the first day he had it, but if any of you know anything about kit cars you know that thats par for the course.
well i don't know much but heres a couple of ideals.
is the highest point of the cooling system the fill point? if not is there a purge vent at that point?even a hose with a bend in it that is higher than the fill point "might" hold air that is trapped in the cooling system.
i assume that it has the electric cooling fans if so do they come on when the a/c is on? also check the temp. sending unit is working, pull the wire and ground it the fans should come on. next maybe a larger core raditator.that is if the old one is good, don't assume that it is, might have some passages plugged even if it has flow.. hope that helps.... if you can post a couple of pictures. it would help...
try a dual eletric fan setup that will move so much air it should cool it down. also get a lower defgree thromastat so it has some room to warm up without overheating.
