Too much ATF causes harm?
My kid slightly overfilled my C6 trans. I was getting hard shifts at low speeds so drained out the excess and the trans seems to shift normally again now. What kinds of things go wrong with an auto tranny if it has too much fluid. Has he pooched ours?

Transmissions have a vent to protect it and release excess fluid; shouldn't be a problem unless you raced it with vent clogged. You may have seen some bubbles in the fluid however. Overall its best not to overfill it; but you should be just fine.

I just bought my 99 Ranger 4x4 XLT a couple weeks ago and noticed that the tranny was about an inch too full on the dipstick (checked when engine and tranny were hot and after driving a while). It also shifts hard in 1st and 2nd, and when downshifting on coming up to a stop. Could the overfill be the cause?
It shifts smoothly when cold in the morning, but after about 10 minutes of driving it goes South and starts to shift hard again.
