Recently changed the fuel filter and had the transmission fluid changed. The tranny fluid change really seem to cure some up/down shifting issues I was experiencing on the hills on the highway. The question I have is that under no load ie... parked or neutral the engine response is very good however when under load most commonly occuring when trying to turn across traffic or quickly accelerating from a stop I am experiencing a significant hessitation the RPM seems to remain consistent so it leads me to believe the problem lies in the transmission. 2000 EB 4x4 5.4 with 72k. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
ps what RPM should the 5.4 idle at? Both 5.4's I have owned have been rough idlers am I just lucky.
Yeah, it sounds like you might have excess slippage in the tranny.
Some other areas of maintenance you might want to consider are plugs, clean MAF sensor, clean injectors, clean TB (ooops Ford says not to), pcv, etc. You're getting up there in miles and it wouldn't hurt to address these items.
