Supplemental Coolant Additives

What exactly are they? I am guessing that they somehow fight against cavitation. I just got a 99 F250 w/ 90,000 miles. What should I do? This is my 2nd PSD. While I had my 95 F250, I never knew of SCA's so I never checked the coolant for them, just made sure it was full and wouldn't freeze. I think I read somewhere in these post about test strips to test the coolant, but I can't find it now.

The coolant additive is FW-16. I buy my additive and test strips from Diesel Injection Service ( www.dieselpage.com ).

Thanks a bunch johnsdiesel. I am looking at the site right now. They have a place in Amarillo, where I live. All too convenient for me. When I get my truck out of the shop(stereo, tires, and tint), I will test it.

Johnsdiesel, A while back there was a thread on flushing the radiator but I'm unable to query it. My 01 truck is coming up on 60,000 miles and I want to flush the radiator and replace the coolant with rotella 50/50 is there any special trick to this? Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

Does this help? This si the only thread I came up with. I usually don't do this myself because I have a hard time getting rid of the coolant.
