If you're a subscriber to HBO, Showtime and ESPN2, you get to see boxing at least once every week....more if you're into pay-per-view. Some of the greatest fights of all time have taken place over the last 3 years, IMO.
With boxers like Roy Jones, the Klitchko Brothers, Shane Mosley, Zab Judah (who lost last weekend as did Vladimir Klitchko) and a lot of other talent, boxing has made a resurgence. It just isn't PC enough for ABC to go back to televising.
I agree that some of the best fights have happened in the last couple of years but also some HUGE screwjobs that have hurt the sport. I disagree with boxing having a resurgence. All the mega stars are starting to age quickly with only a few more fights left in them. Let's not forget the $50 PPV charges just to watch the big fights. Also there are too many championship belts and sanctioning bodies. Ring Magazine wants to sanction its own championship belts and according to many insiders believe it will be viewed as the true title and soon weed out the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and all other bodies. Yes you can can some great fights on ESPN's Friday Night FIghts but the big stars do not fight nearly as often as they should and it is easy for them not to be fresh in viewers' minds. I hope it does make a huge comeback but with guys like Don King running the show I seriously doubt it.
I would love to be able to watch > Full-Contact Golf.
That would be so cool
