I have an 87' 300 I6 with 4-speed in my 85 ford f-150....my clutch I believe has gone out....started to slip on the highway then won't go into gear.....what are suggestions do you have to the problem......or suggest some nice better-than-stock clutch kits for a reasonable price I can purchase...Thanks!!!

You probably got alot of miles out of your stock one. If you don't plan on doing any other performance mods to necessitate a performance clutch pack, go back with stock. And change throw-out bearing.

Also, if you have any leak on the back of the engine or rear main seal, this could cause you clutch to slip. If not, you need to take care of the problem pretty quick before the rivets on the disc start chewing into the flywheel.

The clutch only has ~50,000 miles I believe..I plan to do a lot of modifying to the engine and truck in the future and dont wanna have to worry about my clutch going out again.....I so far have taken my 85' flareside and replaced the engine (300 I6 EFI), tranny, and cab out of an 87' model F-150. It may be a little while until I can afford a lot of mods, but until then I am just trying to keep it well maintained and running well.

It shouldn't be worn out with that little mileage, depending on your diriving habits. You might just pop the tranny out, look at the clutch pack, see if there's any oil residue on it, fix the oil leak, if any, sand and deglaze the flywheel, disc and pressure plate surfaces and slap it back in.

i have the 2.73 rear end. people say these gears put the most wear on the clutch because you have to slip it more (i have the M5OD). i have 108k miles on the truck and clutch and it still feels new. unless you're really hard on your clutch it should be fine at 50k.
